Kicking Off 2026 with White Burgundy and Spanish Reds

Kicking Off 2026 with White Burgundy and Spanish Reds

On Wednesday, 14 January 2026, DV Wine Club hosted A New Year Wine Affair at Golden Ocean Katong 황금어. Members and guests came together to enjoy a thoughtful selection of five White Burgundies and four Spanish reds, paired with a variety of Korean seafood, BBQ grill appetizers, and izakaya-style snacks. The evening offered a relaxed and enjoyable way to start the year, reconnect with fellow wine lovers, and savor a combination of wines and food that complemented each other beautifully. Special thanks to Michael Lee, owner and chef of Golden Ocean Katong, for his warm hospitality.

White Burgundies with Character

The White Burgundies highlighted the charm and variety of Chardonnay. Domaine Nadine Ferrand Viré Clessé 2023 greeted guests with bright notes of peach, citrus, and honey, while Mâcon Charnay-Les-Mâcon 2023 brought a lively, fresh character with hints of pear and citrus. The Pouilly-Fuissé wines offered a deeper expression: Éclat d’Ammonite 2023 stood out for its minerality, Cuvée Lise-Marie 2023 for its layered stone fruit and floral notes, and Prestige 1er Cru 2023, crafted from 90-year-old vines, delivered a gentle richness with subtle apricot, brioche, and oak nuances. Each wine paired naturally with the evening’s seafood, offering a sense of balance and harmony.

Spanish Reds with Depth and Elegance

The Spanish reds added structure and depth to the tasting. Bodegas Valduero Finca Azaya 2019 and Finca Azaya Premium 2018 showed ruby-red color with aromas of menthol, licorice, roasted coffee, and ripe fruit. Una Cepa 2019 was intense and structured, while Valduero Reserva Premium 6 Años 2015, recognized as “Best Wine from Ribera del Duero” by VINUM in 2019, offered garnet hues with gentle notes of toffee and cedar. These wines complemented the rich flavors of Korean BBQ, creating a tasting that was both lively and approachable.

Beyond the wines and food, the evening was a chance for DV Wine Club members to reconnect after the holiday season and share in the joy of good company. A New Year Wine Affair offered a relaxed, convivial atmosphere where guests could explore wines, enjoy thoughtful pairings, and celebrate the start of 2026 together.
