On 13 June 2026, the lush surroundings of the Shaw Foundation Symphony Stage at the Singapore Botanic Gardens became the backdrop for a memorable celebration marking 45 years of diplomatic relations between Singapore and Portugal. Bringing together diplomacy, culture, music, and community, the event reflected the enduring friendship and growing partnership between the two nations since diplomatic ties were established in 1981.
A Milestone Worth Celebrating
The occasion was graced by distinguished guests, including H.E. Carlos Pires, Ambassador of Portugal to Singapore, and Ms Sim Ann, Senior Minister of State for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Ministry of Home Affairs, whose presence underscored the significance of this milestone in bilateral relations.
Over the past four and a half decades, Singapore and Portugal have cultivated strong ties across trade, education, culture, tourism, and people-to-people exchanges. The anniversary celebration served as a reminder of the shared values and mutual respect that continue to strengthen this relationship.
Ana Bacalhau Brings Portuguese Soul to Singapore

A highlight of the evening was the live performance by acclaimed Portuguese singer-songwriter Ana Bacalhau.
Renowned as the voice of the platinum-selling Portuguese group Deolinda and celebrated for her successful solo career, Ana captivated the audience with her distinctive artistry and powerful stage presence. Her music, deeply rooted in Portuguese traditions while embracing contemporary influences, showcased the emotional richness and lyrical sophistication that have made her one of Portugal's most beloved artists.
As the sun began to set over the Botanic Gardens, Ana's performance filled the open-air venue with melodies infused with saudade—the uniquely Portuguese expression of longing, nostalgia, and emotion. Her heartfelt songs created a beautiful cultural bridge, allowing audiences in Singapore to experience the depth and soul of Portuguese musical heritage.

Guests had the opportunity to discover and learn more about Portugal's diverse wine regions and winemaking traditions, while engaging with our team throughout the evening. The event provided a wonderful platform to share Portugal's rich wine culture with local audiences and visitors alike.
This participation would not have been possible without the valued support of two of our esteemed Portuguese wine partners:

Together, these producers helped showcase the diversity, craftsmanship, and heritage that make Portuguese wines increasingly appreciated around the world.
Strengthening Cultural Connections Through Music and Wine
The evening demonstrated how cultural experiences can bring people together beyond borders. Through music, wine, and meaningful exchanges, attendees were able to celebrate not only a diplomatic milestone but also the shared appreciation of heritage, creativity, and friendship.
As Portugal and Singapore commemorate 45 years of diplomatic relations, events such as this reaffirm the importance of cultural diplomacy in building lasting connections between nations and communities.
