A Portuguese Wine Affair: An Evening of New Discoveries at XLX Modern Tze Char

On 23 June 2026, we welcomed guests to A Portuguese Wine Affair: New Arrivals Dinner at XLX Modern Tze Char for an intimate evening dedicated to the vibrant wines of Portugal. The dinner celebrated the arrival of exciting new labels from Quinta da Raza and showcased the elegance of Vieira de Sousa, paired alongside a specially curated Chinese buffet.

Designed to be a relaxed yet refined dining experience, the evening brought together refreshing whites from Portugal's renowned Vinho Verde region and expressive reds from the Douro Valley, proving once again that Portuguese wines pair beautifully with Chinese cuisine.

Exploring the New Arrivals from Quinta da Raza

The spotlight of the evening was on the latest additions from Quinta da Raza. Guests had the opportunity to discover the lively and aromatic Quinta da Raza Azal, an expressive white that highlights the freshness and vibrancy of the indigenous Azal grape. Also making its debut was Quinta da Raza Arinto, a crisp and elegant wine with bright citrus notes and a refreshing mineral finish, perfectly suited to seafood and lighter dishes. Completing the new arrivals was Quinta da Raza Tinto, a fruit-forward and approachable red that showcased the versatility and charm of Portugal's native grape varieties.

Alongside these new additions, guests revisited familiar favourites from the estate, including Quinta da Raza Alvarinho-Trajadura, and Quinta da Raza Avesso-Alvarinho. These wines continue to exemplify the freshness, balance, and food-friendly character that have made Quinta da Raza a beloved producer among Portuguese wine enthusiasts.

A Taste of the Douro

Complementing the vibrant wines from Vinho Verde was Vieira de Sousa Alice Douro Red Reserve, an elegant and expressive red that beautifully captures the depth and complexity of Portugal's famed Douro region. The wine remains a standout crowd-pleaser, offering layers of red fruit, fresh balsamic notes, and refined structure that paired seamlessly with the rich flavours of the evening's dishes.

Portuguese Wines Meet Chinese Cuisine

One of the highlights of the evening was experiencing just how effortlessly Portuguese wines pair with Chinese cuisine. The bright acidity and aromatic character of the Vinho Verde wines enhanced the delicate flavours of seafood and vegetable dishes, while the richness and structure of the Douro red complemented heartier and more savoury offerings from the buffet.
