A New Year Wine Affair: Bodegas Valduero at Golden Ocean Katong

On Wednesday, 14 January 2026, DV Wine Club hosted A New Year Wine Affair at Golden Ocean Katong 황금어, bringing members and guests together for a relaxed evening of wine, food, and conversation. While the evening featured a broader selection of wines, the Spanish reds from Bodegas Valduero stood out as a defining highlight, pairing beautifully with Korean BBQ grill appetizers. Special thanks to Michael Lee, owner and chef of Golden Ocean Katong, for his warm hospitality and thoughtful cuisine that framed the wines so well.

Spanish Reds with Depth and Character

Bodegas Valduero’s wines brought structure, richness, and balance to the evening. Finca Azaya 2019 and Finca Azaya Premium 2018 captured attention with their deep ruby hues and expressive aromas. On the palate, both wines showed impressive maturity and power while remaining silky and well integrated, making them particularly enjoyable alongside the smoky flavors of Korean BBQ.

Una Cepa 2019 impressed guests with its intensity and structure, offering a cherry-red color with a high concentration and a long, persistent finish that filled the palate. The tasting culminated with Valduero Reserva Premium 6 Años, a wine recognized as “Best Wine from Ribera del Duero” by VINUM. With its garnet color and layered aromas of toffee and cedar, it delivered depth, elegance, and a sense of refinement that resonated strongly with guests.

A Thoughtful Start to 2026

Beyond the wines themselves, the evening offered a welcome opportunity for DV Wine Club members to reconnect after the year-end festivities. The combination of Valduero’s expressive Spanish reds, well-matched Korean cuisine, and a relaxed, convivial setting made A New Year Wine Affair a fitting and memorable way to begin 2026.
